I don’t want my seniors to walk away saying, “Those are beautiful photos.”
I want them to say, “That felt like me.”
That’s why I approach every senior session differently. This isn’t just another photo session on my calendar, and it isn’t simply a job to complete. Senior year is a once-in-a-lifetime season, and I believe the experience should be just as meaningful as the images themselves.
Before I ever pick up my camera, I spend time getting to know each senior through a detailed questionnaire. I learn what they value, what excites them, what they’re naturally drawn to, and what they envision for their session. Their responses give me a glimpse into who they are beyond what I see online, helping me understand what matters most to them and how they want this season of life to be remembered.
I also ask my seniors to send me outfit options and inspiration images. This allows me to see the colors, styles, and overall aesthetic they’re drawn to so I can begin thoughtfully planning their session.
When I receive those responses, I get genuinely excited. I love discovering what makes each senior unique. At the same time, I feel a deep sense of responsibility. Senior year is a significant milestone, and I don’t take that lightly.
My goal isn’t simply to take beautiful photos. My goal is to create an experience that feels personal, intentional, and completely tailored to each senior.
From there, I thoughtfully curate every detail—from locations and scenery to outfits, colors, and overall session flow—so that when session day arrives, everything works together to tell their story.
Ainsley’s Downtown Jackson senior session was a perfect example of this process in action.
Through her questionnaire, outfit selections, and inspiration images, I was able to get a clear picture of her style and personality. She was drawn to soft, feminine colors and timeless looks, which helped shape the vision for her session.
Her yellow dress paired beautifully with the gardens and blooming flowers, creating a light, romantic feel. Later, her pink outfit complemented the classic architecture and downtown scenery perfectly, bringing a fresh and confident energy to her images. Because every detail was thoughtfully considered beforehand, the final gallery felt cohesive while still offering plenty of variety.
Rather than choosing a location first and hoping everything works together, I build each session around the senior. Their personality, style, interests, and vision become the foundation for every decision we make.
When seniors trust this process, they can relax and enjoy the experience knowing that every detail has been carefully planned with their final gallery in mind.
Because at the end of the day, I don’t want them to simply love their photos.
I want them to look through their gallery and say, “That felt like me.”
